Natural shedding of old branches
An occasional brown lower branch on an otherwise healthy plant is normal aging.
Diagnosis
Natural shedding of old branches
What's happening
As a Norfolk Island Pine grows taller it gradually sheds its oldest, lowest branches to put energy into new growth at the top. If only the very lowest one or two branches are browning while the upper tiers stay lush and green, nothing is wrong.
How to fix it
Snip the spent branch off flush with the trunk for a tidy look, and carry on with your normal care. Keep an eye out that the browning stays limited to the oldest lower branches and doesn't start climbing up the plant — if it spreads upward, look again at watering and humidity.
If that doesn't fix it
This is general guidance based on common symptoms; individual plants vary.
