Sunburn from direct sun
Pale, dry, bleached patches on the leaves nearest the window are sunburn.
Diagnosis
Sunburn from direct sun
What's happening
While Purple Shamrock wants bright light to hold its color, harsh direct midday sun is too much for its thin leaves. Strong rays through glass scorch the tissue, leaving dry, faded brown-to-bleached patches that don't recover, usually worst on the leaflets closest to the pane.
How to fix it
Move the plant back from the window or to a spot with bright, indirect light, or soften the harsh sun with a sheer curtain. The scorched leaves won't recolor, so trim the worst-damaged stems at the soil line; the bulbs will quickly send up fresh, healthy purple growth once it's out of the direct sun.
What fixes it
- A full-spectrum LED grow light — If a scorching window was your only strong light, a grow light gives even, gentle light without burning the leaves.
If that doesn't fix it
This is general guidance based on common symptoms; individual plants vary.
